Elements of Principal of Design
Line
Mark with greater length than width.
Shape
A closed line, can be either geometric or even any natural shape. Circles, squares and polygons in general.
Forms
A three-dimensional shape, showing length, width and depth. Cubes, pyramids and balls are forms.
Space
The area between objects. Can also refer to the feeling of depth.
Color
The light that gets reflected off of any object that the human eye can see with our narrow perspective.
Textures
How any surface or piece of art feels. Can be rough or smooth. Soft or hard.
Balance
Distribution of the visual weight of the piece.
Emphasis
Putting more attention to the odd thing out, but still letting the art be seen as it is.
Movement
Having the viewer look to specific points along the photograph or art piece.
Pattern
Repetition of any symbol in a piece of art.
Repetition
Repeating a pattern in a piece of art.
Proportion
Size relevant to another object.
Rhythm
When one or more elements of design are used to give a feel to the piece.
Variety
The use of one or more elements of design to hold the viewer's attention.
Unity
All the elements in the artwork go together to form one amazing piece.
